Very generally and traditionally speaking, reincarnation is the belief that when one dies, one’s body decomposes, but something of oneself is reborn in another body. The belief in past lives used to be mainly a belief in Eastern religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism, but now is also found in places like the New Age Movement.

As a Christ-follower, I have learned that Jesus speaks about reincarnation, but not in the same sense as some religions espouse. In fact, I have come to believe that all followers of Jesus must embrace the Biblical view of reincarnation if they are paying attention to the one they proclaim as their Lord. Have you been reincarnated yet? If not, when?

Listen to some of these Bible quotes, and see if you agree with me.

John 3:3 “In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again… 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’”

1 Peter 1:23 “For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.”

Romans 6:2 “We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?”

Romans 6:4 “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that… we too may live a new life.”

Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

You see, anyone who comes to Christ is one who says, “I am ready to be reinvented, recreated, reincarnated!” We are people who are trying to lay aside one person, namely a self-serving person, in lieu of the kind of person Jesus invites us to be in His family. It’s hard for some of us, but it can be done.
